12.3 Neurones and Synapse
In this lesson, I introduce the basic structures of the neuron (nerve cell),
the three types of neurones namely, sensory neurone (afferent neurone),
relay neuron (interneurone) and motor neurone (efferent neurone).
I will also explain how transmission of impulse occurs across the narrow gap
between dendrites and synaptic knobs called synapse.
Did you know that chemical messengers are important in transmitting impulse
from one neurone to the next?
These chemicals are known as neurotransmitters, examples of which are
acetylcholine, noradrenaline, serotonin and dopamine.
